Global initiative to promote peacebuilding and conflict resolution

City Administration Posted on August 28, 2024

Area Rotary Clubs are promoting a global initiative to focus their communities on peacebuilding and conflict resolution. More than 250,000 peace poles have been planted throughout the world. Colorful poles covered in award winning children’s artwork will be planted in various high visibility locations throughout the city to start community conversations about not only peace, but also kindness, unity, friendships, tolerance, love and generosity.

To support the three Rotary Clubs meeting locally and to promote better quality of life, the City of Lake Wales is sponsoring the first 10 peace poles.

Planting will begin on World Peace Day September 21 and continue at least until year’s end as part of the first “100 Days of Kindness.”

A Fall Friendship Festival is planned for World Tolerance Day Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Lake Wales Family Recreation Center. An International peace fellow and world class cellist, Diego Carneiro, will visit to perform concerts and conversations about peace through music.

Mark your calendars and plan to join us on September 21 and November 16. More details about both events will be published on the City’s website, Facebook, Instagram and Nextdoor.
