Excessive tree trimming may cause long-term damage.

City Administration Posted on December 07, 2022

Regular tree maintenance helps a tree flourish. It’s best to consult a tree arborist before trimming a tree. Excessive trimming may result in a topped tree, as seen in the image. Losing tree foliage reduces the number of nutrients a tree needs to survive. The topping wounds or freshly cut areas may attract insects and tree disease, leading to decay.

Tree trimming for regular maintenance does not require a permit; however, tree trimming which threatens the tree's life or deforms the natural canopy is prohibited. Each occurrence will be deemed a tree removal and will require tree replacement in accordance with section 23-302.2.
