Signed construction contract marks a historical event, Park Avenue & Market Plaza revitalization

City Administration Posted on December 08, 2022

City Manager James Slaton and City staff met with Gomez Construction to initiate the construction plans to revitalize the downtown historic core. Park Avenue between Scenic Highway and Wetmore Street is geared to become a desirable street to explore a variety of eateries and retail shops. Plans also include the redesign of Market Plaza. Residents and visitors will enjoy new outdoor seating areas and public gathering spaces for exhibits and large community gatherings. Other components include: cathedral live oak trees, hanging-flower baskets, rain gardens, enlarged sidewalks, enhanced lighting and on-street parking.

The “Lake Wales Connected” plan initiated by Lake Wales Main Street and facilitated by City staff, is a multimillion-dollar project designed to create a hospitable environment for residents to easily commute to area establishments in a botanical-rich environment between the historic downtown district and Northwest Neighborhood.
