Project Overview
In accordance with the Lake Wales Connected Plan, the 1st Street Redevelopment Streetscape Project will focus on a complete street designed to balance the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, transit, and vehicles. The project's pedestrian-oriented design will feature parallel parking, broad sidewalks, a cycle track, shade trees, rain gardens and site furnishings. This transformative infrastructure project is aimed at improving accessibility/mobility, beautifying the corridor, and linking the downtown core with surrounding neighborhoods. Funding was made possible through Congressman Darren Soto's Office through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Construction Schedule
Construction for the 1st Street Redevelopment Streetscape Project will begin the last week of February 2026. First Street will be closed between Stuart Avenue and Orange Avenue. Detours will be in place to direct traffic around 1st Street.
